Artist Bio
Her work is featured in the following collections: Museu do Chiado, Serralves Foundation, Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Funchal, EDP Foundation, Coleção António Cachola and also the Coleção Banco Privado. She received the Prémio União Latina prize in 2001.From the principles of assemblage, intervened appropriation and abstract construction, the artist creates objects that appeal to the careful reading of their own processes, surprise and intrinsic nature. Isolated or conceived for dialogues in the space, they have the presence and the tactile appeal of sculpture, but also the resourcefulness of drawing and the intriguing challenge of their latent symbolic reference.
After a beginning in which she was producing mainly small canvases with the representation of ordinary household objects, the interest of the artist open up to more volumetric artworks: the construction and the uses of materials on the floor, their immersion and expansion on the three-dimensional space, photography, sound and video are conceived as a unit of her personal language. The point of view to the different thematic that she investigates is highly feminine. In her works we can often find women, usually alone, as archetypes, free beings, sometimes curious, sometimes wounded but always strong.
The aesthetic of Victoria Civera refers to a universe in which to expand her feelings, emotions and experiences of life in a constant search for dialogue between the figurative world and the abstract world, creating a unitary whole. Her conception of art as a universe is translated in a constant conceptual search, coming together imaginary worlds of her conscience intermingling with reality: material as syntax, painting-abstraction, density and fragility, evocation and evanescence.
Victoria Civera was born in Port de Sagunt (Valencia) in 1955.
She lives and works between New York and Saro.
The career of Victoria Civera began during the seventies, with a work initially strongly focus on the photomontage and installations.
At the beginning of the 80’s she focuses on paintings where the abstract circle will appear, and during this process a seminal human figure will be present in the center of this circles.
As the years go by and the consequent change of country (the artist moved to New York in 1987-88) the artistic research of Civera diversified and expanded through the use of various materials. The artist’s intention avoids a unique language, not wanted to become too attributable to a unique style. Little by little her style and her language extended, including painting, drawing and large installations.

"Everything is in everything", I remember this phrase that I wrote for a small catalog of mine. In all the arts, the works are born through experimenting with the senses, then the emotion is formed, and our conscience will allow us to edit conceptually those experiences and emotions to formalize a work with a particular charisma.
