Jorge Pinheiro
Born in Coimbra in 1931, Jorge Pinheiro graduated from Fine Arts School of Porto in 1963.
Jorge Pinheiro is central to the artistical pantheon of Portuguese art.
He was a teacher from 1959 to 1998 in various schools and Universities such as Fine Arts School of Lisbon, Fine Arts School of Oporto and at Évora University.
His development as an artist has traversed one of the most eventful periods of art making at the second half of the twentieth century and in these first decades of our new century, which has involved a radical questioning of what constitutes a work of art, and it's redefinition, as idea and as production. In the case of Jorge Pinheiro, production extends to the concept of craft and of making, while the term ideia encompasses the artist's intelligence ad deep reflection of what it is to create in the world.
What inspires me? Life outside banging on the door.
