Galeria Miguel Nabinho – Lisboa 20 began in 2000 as a pioneering project in Portugal.

 

Its exhibitions took place in spaces chosen by the artists themselves, and thus meant the gallery space (which was not fixed) would be the most appropriate location for the works on show.

In February 2003, we opened a space in Campo de Ourique where we have held exhibitions and keep our depository of works for sale by all the artists we represent.

By now Galeria Miguel Nabinho works with some of the most important Portuguese artists, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Ana Jotta, Luísa Cunha, Salomé Lamas,... Internationally, Galeria Miguel Nabinho – Lisboa 20 has grown, and since 2009 has been participating in International Art Fairs.

Her work is featured in the following collections: Museu do Chiado, Serralves Foundation, Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Funchal, EDP Foundation, Coleção António Cachola and also the Coleção Banco Privado. She received the Prémio União Latina prize in 2001.From the principles of assemblage, intervened appropriation and abstract construction, the artist creates objects that appeal to the careful reading of their own processes, surprise and intrinsic nature. Isolated or conceived for dialogues in the space, they have the presence and the tactile appeal of sculpture, but also the resourcefulness of drawing and the intriguing challenge of their latent symbolic reference.

He also took part in the Aperto of the Venice Biennial in 1988. His work stages complexity through multiple stylistic beats, in a kind of delirious pastureland of what we could call "near heteronyms". The artist frequently responds to the stylistic stimulus of history (the baroque, the rococo, the middle ages) but approaches these moments to produce games of forms that are like programming, very similar to that of computer games.

Solo exhibitions include: T1, Serralves Foundation, Porto (1998); Móveis ao Cubo, Desenhos ao Acaso, TREM Galeria Municipal de Arte, Faro (2009); Peças Mais ou Menos Recentes, EDP Foundation, Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis and Galeria Fernando Santos, Porto (2013).

Pedro Proença was born in 1962, Lubango, Angola. He now lives and works in Lisbon. He has exhibited regularly since 1981. In 1982, he founded the Movimento Homeostético. His first solo show was in 1984, and has been followed by more solos at the Galeria Fucares (87), the Frith Gallery (89), at the Pallazo Ruspoli (94), the Gulbenkian Foundation (94), the Frankfurt Kunstwerein (1988), the Camargo Vilaça gallery (1988), among others.

Artist Bio

I went back to the greek, to mythology, to anthropology and to psychoanalysis. Its not that I'm up for those kind of approaches, but I spent my youth leafing through them in my home's library.  I wrote deliriously about it, as well as tons of manifestos. Hence my texts whispering through my drawings.
